Drop Waisted Dress Up Close

The Drop Waisted Shirt Dress has a casual summery look going on, with its smart button up front and rounded baby collar and party down below with its full gathered skirt. We love that this dress is versatile and looks just as amazing in both lightweight casual cotton voiles and Ooh la laa out for dinner silks. You can wear this dress belted at the waist or left loose all nonchalant and cool.

We’ve included several little details that can turn this dress into something quite wow. With the inclusion of binding pieces defining the button placket that could look amazing in a contrasted fabric or by cutting a print on the bias. We have drawn attention to the dropped waist with the same binding detail and with our more formal black and white version, we cut it in plain black silk to match our contrast collar. The buttons are placed in twos instead of singularly and there are plain breast pockets on the front.
We have included contour waist darts at both the front and back to shape the dress through the body and reduce any excess gaping fabric, and to flatter the figure the side seams are gently shaped.

Sewing Level:
While we have labeled this dress as a Intermediate sewing level, its really on the easier side, more like an advanced beginner. The 2 piece collar comes together easily and the armholes are finished with a facing and all the rest is simple straightish seams.

Shop the Drop Waisted Dress in our very own boutique or at the Etsy or Craftsy stores.

Coffee Date Dress Up close:

I am so excited about our new patterns and thought that each new style deserves it own individual post to showcase the details.

I wanted a cute vintage inspired but modern dress that would suit a wide range of occasions. Not too cute, but not too vintagey, (not quite a proper word!), not too formal with enough details to make it interesting to sew. Voilà The Coffee Date dress.

With a pleated front bodice and skirt, super cute pockets and a lovely fitted silhouette that finishes above the knee. We have keep the back of the dress quite plain, contour darts with all the attention on the cute and practical vintage style of kick pleat.

This dress suits a range of fabrics from silks to everyday cottons and I can’t wait to sew up an everyday version in a gorgeous liberty style of cotton floral print. Our new patterns are all available for immediate download in our Boutique. Coffee Date anyone?
